Fish imports into goa banned

The media reported that the import of fish into goa not conforming to regulatory requirements was banned after the formalin scare
According to some sources, the formalin can cause health problems including cancer
A large number of trucks, more than 30, were stopped at the border checkpost in Goa, and not allowed to enter the state
However local fish eaters were not affected because the local fishermen had a bumper catch according to media sources . Trucks carrying fish to fishmeal plants in the state were however allowed to enter the state.
This must have adversely affected the fish sellers from outside goa, who are supplying the markets in goa, especially the larger markets like Margao, Panaji, Mapusa, since they must have spent a lot of money procuring the fish.
